Job Description
Our client is an international engineering/construction company, is seeking an experienced Senior Electrical Engineer to join its Engineering team.
The ideal candidate will provide technical leadership across the electrical scope of MEP projects, from tender and design review through installation, testing, commissioning, and final hand-over.
Key Responsibilities
- Review employer requirements, consultant designs, specifications, BOQs, and tender documents to identify technical gaps, risks, and value-engineering opportunities.
- Prepare, review, and approve electrical calculations, load schedules, cable sizing, voltage-drop and short-circuit studies, protection coordination, equipment sizing, single-line diagrams, layouts, and schematics.
- Lead the preparation and review of coordinated shop drawings, builders' work drawings, material submittals, method statements, inspection and test plans, and technical queries.
- Ensure electrical works are properly coordinated with mechanical, plumbing, fire protection, civil, architectural, and structural disciplines.
- Ensure compliance with contract requirements, approved designs, local regulations, and recognized international standards.
- Provide technical oversight of LV and, where applicable, MV power distribution, transformers, generators, switchgear, MCCs, UPS systems, and power-factor correction.
- Oversee lighting, small power, emergency power, earthing and bonding, lightning protection, metering, and energy-management systems.
- Coordinate ELV and specialist systems, including fire alarm, data and telecommunications, access control, CCTV, public address, BMS interfaces, and other project-specific systems.
- Verify equipment ratings, protection settings, selectivity, maintainability, access requirements, and interfaces with mechanical equipment and control systems.
- Provide technical direction and support to electrical engineers, supervisors, technicians, and subcontractors.
- Inspect installations, address site constraints and non-conformities, and ensure works are carried out according to approved drawings, specifications, method statements, and quality plans.
- Monitor electrical progress against project schedules, identify delays and resource constraints, and recommend corrective actions.
- Coordinate shutdowns, energization activities, temporary power, and interfaces with utilities, consultants, clients, and other contractors.
- Ensure accurate red-line drawings, as-built documentation, test records, O&M manuals, warranties, and hand-over documentation.
- Prepare technical requisitions and support quantity take-offs, BOQ reviews, and scope clarifications.
- Evaluate suppliers and subcontractors from a technical perspective, review compliance statements and quotations, and provide recommendations.
- Coordinate long-lead equipment approvals, factory inspections, and deliveries with Procurement and the project team.
- Support variation assessments, claims, cost-saving initiatives, and technical substantiation while maintaining project quality and compliance.
- Develop and review testing and commissioning procedures, checklists, programmes, and energization plans.
- Witness and verify inspections and tests, including insulation resistance, continuity, earthing, functional testing, protection testing, and integrated systems testing.
- Lead electrical snagging and close-out activities, resolve outstanding technical issues, and support client training and final acceptance.
- Promote safe electrical working practices, permit-to-work procedures, lockout/tagout, and energization controls in coordination with the HSE team.
- Promote right-first-time installation, technical reviews, lessons learned, and continuous improvement.
- Mentor junior engineers and supervisors, assign technical tasks, and review the quality of their work.
- Maintain effective communication with clients, consultants, project managers, and internal teams while promptly escalating significant technical or delivery risks.
