Job Description
A leading holding company in the steel industry is looking to hire a Maintenance Manager who will be responsible for leading all maintenance activities across electrical, mechanical, and automobile disciplines to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient plant operations. The role oversees preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance programmes, equipment reliability, asset performance, and breakdown management to maximise plant availability and minimise downtime.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage all electrical, mechanical, and automobile maintenance activities to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient plant operations.
- Develop, implement, and monitor preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance programmes to maximise equipment reliability and plant availability.
- Oversee maintenance planning, breakdown response, shutdown execution, and asset lifecycle management to minimise production downtime.
- Manage maintenance budgets, spare parts inventory, procurement, and resource utilisation to achieve cost-effective operations.
- Supervise engineering projects, equipment installations, plant upgrades, and expansion initiatives, ensuring delivery within scope, budget, and schedule.
- Manage contractor and vendor performance, including selection, negotiations, service quality, and compliance with contractual obligations.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental (HSE), statutory, and company standards across all maintenance and engineering activities.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance maintenance processes, equipment performance, operational efficiency, and cost optimisation.
- Prepare and analyse maintenance performance reports, KPIs, and asset reliability data to support operational decision-making.
- Lead, coach, and develop multidisciplinary maintenance teams, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and adherence to company values.
- Collaborate with operations, procurement, engineering, and other stakeholders to support uninterrupted production and achieve organisational objectives.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
- Professional certifications in Maintenance Management, Project Management, Reliability Engineering, Lean Manufacturing, or Six Sigma are an advantage.
- Minimum of 10 years' experience in maintenance management within the steel industry or other heavy manufacturing environments, with demonstrated leadership of multidisciplinary maintenance teams.
- Proven experience in preventive and predictive maintenance, equipment reliability, shutdown management, contractor and vendor management, maintenance budgeting, and engineering project execution.
- Experience supporting greenfield, brownfield, or plant expansion projects, preferably within Africa.
- Strong leadership, strategic planning, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and team development capabilities.
- Good commercial and financial acumen with experience managing maintenance costs and resources.
- Proficiency in Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) and ERP systems (SAP preferred).
- Sound knowledge of maintenance best practices, engineering standards, occupational health and safety regulations, and continuous improvement methodologies.
