03 JOB PURPOSE
The Maintenance Manager is responsible for the end-to-end supervision and management of plant maintenance activities encompassing electrical, mechanical, and automobile maintenance. This role ensures that all plant equipment and machinery operate at optimal efficiency through disciplined preventive maintenance, rapid breakdown response, cost-effective spares management, and strong people leadership — all in alignment with MMD's operational standards and the company values of STEEL.
4.1 Maintenance Operations
• Oversee and direct the day-to-day work of the Maintenance team across electrical, mechanical, and automobile disciplines.
• Plan, coordinate, and supervise all maintenance activities to maximise plant uptime and prevent unplanned breakdowns.
• Ensure timely and effective response to all breakdowns, minimising impact on production operations.
• Develop and implement a comprehensive preventive maintenance programme across all plant machinery and equipment.
• Manage overall departmental cost control, including spares procurement, utilisation tracking, and overtime management.
• Ensure adequate inventory of critical spare parts is planned and maintained to avoid emergency sourcing costs.
4.2 Contract & Vendor Management
• Identify and evaluate local vendors in Senegal based on market knowledge, quality standards, and reliability.

• Support the Head of Operations in vendor negotiations relating to project cost and delivery
timelines.
• Lead vendor review meetings to track performance, address issues, and escalate complex matters as required.
• Provide structured feedback to contractors based on cost, quality, and timeline adherence.
4.3 Project Management
• Prepare draft engineering drawings and project plans for review and approval by the Head of Operations.
• Raise material requisition requests for critical projects and manage approval with the supervisor.
• Conduct periodic project reviews covering manpower, budget, performance, and timelines; guide teams on corrective actions.
• Ensure adherence to statutory regulations and legal compliance requirements for all new projects and engineering developments.
• Assess and plan resource requirements (manpower, technical support, machinery) from manufacturers, contractors, and suppliers.
• Manage logistics and supply chain for project materials including transport and shipment coordination.
4.4 Process Improvement
• Review existing maintenance processes and identify areas for cost reduction, optimisation, and compliance improvement.
• Formulate and execute action plans for process improvement across all key departmental activities.
• Drive initiatives around automation, updated technical drawings, improved SOPs, and quality of installations.
4.5 People Management & Leadership
• Track team performance at individual and group levels; provide coaching, guidance, and development support.
• Manage effective resource allocation and drive higher team engagement through appropriate people and culture interventions.
• Ensure all team behaviours and actions are aligned with MMD's company values — STEEL.
• Provide training and upskilling opportunities for technicians, engineers, and in-charge personnel.
• Foster strong coordination with machine manufacturers, suppliers, and contractors to ensure seamless project execution.
05 JOB SPECIFICATION
5.1 Educational Qualifications
Essential Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (preferred)
Desirable Postgraduate qualification or certification in Maintenance Management, Project Management, or Lean/Six Sigma
5.2 Work Experience
• 10+ years of experience managing plant maintenance in the steel industry (SMS, Hot/Cold Rolling Mills and Auxiliaries) or comparable heavy manufacturing environment.

• Demonstrated experience in preventive, routine, and reactive maintenance across multi-discipline teams (mechanical, electrical, civil, fabrication).Proven track record of managing maintenance budgets, vendor relationships, and project timelines.
5.3 Skills & Competencies
• Strong strategic thinking and analytical capability.
• Excellent communication and articulation skills — confident with senior stakeholders and banks.
• Leadership ability with a focus on team development and accountability.
• High level of commercial acumen and business understanding.
• Proficiency in ERP systems (SAP preferred) and financial modelling tools.
06 WORK CONTEXT & ENVIRONMENT
Working Hours Standard business hours with regular additional hours as required
