Our client, a leading Civil Engineering and Infrastructure Contractor, is looking for a Senior Pile Testing Engineer to join their engineering team in Lagos, Nigeria, to lead, supervise, coordinate, and technically assess all testing and monitoring activities related to foundation piles and deep foundation systems. The Senior Pile Testing Engineer is responsible for planning, executing, interpreting, and reporting all pile testing programs, including Static, Dynamic, Integrity, CSL, TIP, and Lateral Load Tests, ensuring full compliance with project specifications, international standards, and design requirements.
Responsibilities
1. Testing Program Management
- Develop comprehensive pile testing programs for bridge, building, marine, industrial, and infrastructure projects.
- Review contract specifications to define testing requirements.
- Prepare schedules and coordinate testing activities with project teams.
- Ensure availability and calibration of equipment, instrumentation, and personnel.
- Develop procedures, method statements, and quality plans.
2. Static Load Testing
- Plan and supervise:
- Static Compression Load Tests
- Static Tension (Uplift) Load Tests
- Static Lateral Load Tests
- Maintained Load Tests
- Quick Load Tests
- Osterberg Cell (O-Cell) Tests
- Verify reaction systems and test setups.
- Monitor loading sequences and settlement measurements.
- Analyze load-settlement behavior.
- Determine allowable and ultimate pile capacities.
3. Dynamic Load Testing
- Manage and supervise:
- PDA Testing (Pile Driving Analyzer)
- High-Strain Dynamic Load Testing
- Dynamic testing of driven piles
- Review hammer energy performance and driving efficiency.
- Interpret field data and evaluate pile capacities.
- Coordinate CAPWAP analyses when required.
4. Integrity Testing
- Plan and supervise:
- Low Strain Integrity Testing (PIT)
- Sonic Echo Testing
- Impulse Response Testing
- Detect defects such as cracks, voids, necking, soil intrusion, and weak concrete zones.
- Evaluate pile continuity and structural integrity.
5. Crosshole Sonic Logging (CSL)
- Supervise CSL testing operations.
- Verify proper installation of access tubes.
- Analyze sonic transmission data.
- Identify anomalies within pile shafts.
- Assess concrete quality and uniformity.
6. Thermal Integrity Profiling (TIP)
- Plan and manage TIP programs.
- Analyze thermal data during concrete curing.
- Verify pile geometry and continuity.
- Identify defects such as cage misalignment, necking, bulging, and soil inclusions.
- Prepare thermal integrity reports.
7. Lateral Load Testing
- Supervise test setup and execution.
- Monitor lateral displacement and pile response.
- Evaluate stiffness and lateral resistance.
- Ensure compliance with design requirements.
8. Instrumentation and Monitoring
- Oversee installation and monitoring of:
- Strain gauges
- Load cells
- Extensometers
- Settlement markers
- Inclinometers
- Vibrating wire sensors
- Ensure accurate data acquisition and analysis.
- Prepare recommendations based on monitoring results.
9. Technical Evaluation and Reporting
- Analyze all testing results against design criteria.
- Evaluate pile performance and acceptance.
- Prepare:
- Test reports
- Engineering assessments
- Technical recommendations
- Corrective action reports
- Present findings to clients, consultants, and management.
10. Quality Assurance and Compliance
- Ensure compliance with project specifications, international standards, client requirements, and QA/QC procedures.
- Verify calibration records and testing documentation.
- Participate in audits and technical reviews.
11. Construction and Design Support
- Provide technical support during installation and testing.
- Assist in validating design assumptions.
- Recommend design adjustments based on field performance.
- Investigate pile failures and performance issues.

Job Purpose
To manage project planning, quantity estimation, material consumption control, productivity monitoring, and cost control across all piling and foundation projects, ensuring efficient utilization of resources, timely project delivery, and compliance with budget targets.
Key Responsibilities
1. Quantity Estimation and Material Control
- Calculate quantities of steel reinforcement, permanent casing, temporary casing, concrete, bentonite/polymer, and other piling materials.
- Prepare material take-offs and quantity reports for tendering and execution stages.
- Verify quantities executed on site against design drawings and BOQs.
- Monitor material consumption and identify wastage or overconsumption.
- Track material balances and remaining quantities for each project.
- Prepare monthly material utilization reports.
2. Planning and Scheduling
- Develop baseline schedules for piling and foundation projects.
- Prepare detailed work programs for piling rigs, cranes, concrete pumps, and support equipment.
- Establish production targets for each site.
- Monitor actual progress versus planned progress.
- Identify delays and propose recovery plans.
- Coordinate equipment and manpower allocation among projects.
3. Cost Control
- Prepare project cost budgets and monitor actual expenditures.
- Analyze cost variances between budgeted and actual costs.
- Monitor productivity rates of machinery and labor.
- Track fuel, maintenance, steel, concrete, and subcontractor costs.
- Prepare cost forecasts and estimate project completion costs.
- Identify opportunities for cost reduction and efficiency improvement.
4. Project Monitoring and Reporting
- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly project performance reports.
- Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) including:
- Cost per linear meter of pile.
- Concrete consumption per pile.
- Reinforcement consumption per pile.
- Rig productivity.
- Equipment utilization rates.
- Present project status reports to management.
5. Tendering and Budget Preparation
- Assist in preparing technical and commercial proposals.
- Develop resource-loaded project schedules.
- Estimate material requirements and project costs.
- Support pricing strategies and profitability analysis.
6. Resource Management
- Forecast steel, concrete, casing, and consumable requirements.
- Coordinate with procurement and logistics departments.
- Optimize utilization of piling rigs and supporting equipment across projects.
- Monitor equipment downtime and productivity.
7. Documentation and Systems
- Maintain project planning and cost control databases.
- Update BOQs, schedules, cost reports, and progress reports.
- Ensure accurate record keeping for management review.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering.

Operations Manager – Foundations & Piling (Bored Piles Focus)

Position Overview
The Operations Manager – Foundations & Piling is fully responsible and accountable for the
planning, execution, supervision, coordination, and overall performance of all foundation and piling
works across multiple project sites.
Although the role requires familiarity with secant piles and CFA systems, the company’s primary
business is bored pile foundations. Therefore, this position demands advanced expertise and strong
operational control specifically in bored piling works.
The Operations Manager serves as the direct link between Head Office and all project sites. All Site
Engineers, Supervisors, and piling teams report directly to him, and he reports to Head Office. He
carries full accountability for production, quality, safety, cost control, and overall operational results.
Core Responsibilities
1. Full Multi-Site Operational Management
• Oversee and control all piling activities across multiple active sites.
• Ensure implementation of approved drawings, geotechnical recommendations, and project
specifications.
• Receive all technical drawings, revisions, and instructions from Head Office and ensure
proper execution on site.
• Distribute and explain approved documents to Site Engineers and supervise their
implementation.
• Monitor daily progress and ensure achievement of production targets.
• Conduct regular site visits to supervise operations and resolve issues immediately.
• Develop recovery plans when delays occur.
2. Bored Pile Operations Control (Primary Focus)
• Take full responsibility for execution of bored pile works.
• Supervise rotary drilling operations and proper rig positioning.
• Oversee slurry-supported excavation and temporary casing systems.
• Control desanders and bentonite recycling operations.
• Ensure correct tremie concreting procedures under slurry.
• Supervise reinforcement cage installation and compliance with design.
• Verify pile depths, diameters, cut-off levels, and toe levels.
• Review and control pile logs and daily drilling records.
• Supervise pile integrity testing (PIT, CSL, load tests) and ensure compliance.
3. Leadership & Site Reporting Structure
• All Site Engineers, Supervisors, Foremen, Operators, and piling crews report directly to the
Operations Manager.
• Allocate manpower and equipment efficiently between sites.
• Evaluate performance of site teams and enforce accountability.
• Conduct regular coordination and performance meetings.
• Ensure proper communication between sites and Head Office.
4. Plant & Equipment Management
• Control deployment and utilization of piling rigs, cranes, desanders, pumps, bentonite
plants, and support machinery.
• Approve mobilization and demobilization between projects.
• Ensure implementation of preventive and corrective maintenance programs.
• Minimize downtime and optimize equipment productivity.
5. Materials & Logistics Oversight
• Ensure continuous supply of bentonite, cement, reinforcement steel, aggregates, fuel, and
consumables.
• Monitor material consumption and control wastage.
• Coordinate plant and material movement across sites.
• Prevent operational delays due to material shortages.
6. Quality, Safety & Compliance
• Ensure strict compliance with approved drawings and project specifications.
• Enforce QA/QC procedures across all sites.
• Ensure HSE policies are implemented and followed.
• Take corrective actions in case of non-conformance.
7. Cost Control & Performance Accountability
• Monitor drilling unit rates and site productivity.
• Analyze operational performance data.
• Implement cost-saving and efficiency measures.
• Ensure projects meet target budgets and profitability margins.
• Submit structured daily, weekly, and monthly reports to Head Office.
Authority & Accountability
The Operations Manager – Foundations & Piling holds full operational authority over all piling sites
and is directly accountable for:

Qualifications & Experience
• Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering.
